Overview

In the book of Acts, the inspired author Luke recounted a conversion orchestrated by God. Philip, a newly appointed deacon, was led by an angel of the Lord to meet a man from Ethiopia traveling down from Jerusalem towards Gaza. On the face of the narrative, we observe that the Ethiopian—already reading from the book of Isaiah 53:7-8—was asked by Philip, “Do you understand what you are reading?” To this he offered a candid reply, “How can I unless someone guides me?” We read that Philip, “beginning with this Scripture . . . told him the good news about Jesus.” This is the objective of our Sunday School study. Beginning from different places all across the Old Testament, we will follow that pattern: Guide me to Christ, beginning with this scripture.
